Aecom Acquires URS

Downtown Los Angeles engineering and construction firm Aecom Technology Corp. completed its acquisition of San Francisco’s URS Corp. Friday in a $6 billion deal that creates a giant in the engineering and construction industry.

The combined company has a market capitalization of some $6.7 billion, 95,000 employees and revenue of $19.2 billion for the year that ended June 30.

The merger closed after URS shareholders voted to approve a plan allowing them to trade their shares for Aecom stock or to cash out for $53.99 per share.

Aecom says the merger will give the give the company new opportunities to pursue customers in the oil and gas industry, as well as the power industry and government. The combined firm now has customers in 150 countries.

Shares of Aecom stock rose $1.06 (4 percent) to close at $30.04 on the New York Stock Exchange.
