BUZZ: Development activity continued over last year, including construction of two Phoenix communities: Palm Springs condominium complex and San Diego mixed-use project. Company reports projects worth nearly $1 billion under way. Sorrento at Dublin Ranch, 68-unit townhome community in San Francisco suburb, opened earlier this year. Shea turned over day-to-day duties at J.F. Shea Co. in 2005. Heir apparent, a cousin, is Chief Executive Peter O. Shea Jr. Holding company, which controls eight businesses, founded in 1881 in Portland, Ore.; now headquartered in Walnut. Construction unit of company built Golden Gate Bridge, Hoover Dam and recently broke ground on Metro’s extension of Crenshaw-LAX light-rail line.
