Classic Approach

Business is a fashionable affair for Lisa Vanderpump. The Beverly Hills restaurateur, designer and TV celebrity tends to bypass boutiques for high-end department stores where she buys the tailored cuts of such designers as Dolce & Gabbana and Roland Mouret. She splits time among her restaurants: Villa Blanca in Beverly Hills and West Hollywood’s Sur and Pump, her latest. Vanderpump owns them with her husband, Ken Todd. Unlike the swanky look of her restaurants, which she designed and which feature chandeliers and pillowed seating, Vanderpump, 53, prefers to keep her appearance a bit more simple. “I think my personal style is much more classic,” she said. “I always feel the old cliché is true – dress for your body type.” She might wear the trending shoes and jewelry, but she believes women should stick with the classic dress styles, “silhouettes that suit your body type regardless of where the fashion’s going.” Vanderpump doesn’t do all her shopping at department stores. When she wants a custom piece, she calls on L.A. designer Mark Zunino and London-based Jacques Azagury. Her buttoned-up shirts with initials LV on the cuff are also custom-made by a shirt maker in Beverly Hills. But an outfit is not complete without heels, even if they get the better of her, she said. Her favorites are the famous red-soled Christian Louboutin and she also wears Giuseppe Zanotti, both of which typically retail for well north of $1,000. Vanderpump, who has appeared on Bravo’s “Real Housewives of Beverly Hills,” “Vanderpump Rules” and “Dancing With the Stars,” prefers the merchandise at high-end retailers such as Neiman Marcus and Saks Fifth Avenue. But when she travels to New York, she will always fit in a stop at Bergdorf Goodman. Vanderpump said she prefers to keep her style elegant and will rarely have a hemline rise above the knee. “When you get to a certain age, you don’t want to look like you’re mutton dressed up as lamb,” she said.
