Experts estimate that G.M. may end up paying billions of dollars to people filing injury claims over defective automobiles. The automaker is dealing with a crisis over faulty ignition switches that led to the recalls of 2.6 million vehicles as it attempts to recover from bankruptcy. G.M. has already paid a $35 million penalty to the government, and the costs of making restitution to the injured may exceed payments paid in claims involving fatal crashes, the New York Times reports.
