Arianna Huffington has signed West L.A. billionaire Dr. Patrick Soon-Shiong as contributing editor in healthcare and technology to her new World Post online publication.

Soon-Shiong, who has topped the Business Journal’s list of Wealthiest Angelenos for several years, will share his take on technological advancements in health care from his vantage point as a biotech researcher, entrepreneur and investor in health and technology startups. His first article, now online, argues for the need to launch a “Medicines Manhattan Project” to speed the pace of innovation.

“This is an opportunity to connect and collaborate with a global audience comprised of innovative national leaders doing immensely important things the world over when it comes to health and well-being,” Soon-Shiong said in a statement.

Huffington, namesake founder of the Huffington Post website, created World Post with “homeless billionaire” investor Nicolas Berggruen. She is targeting a worldwide audience with articles from global leaders, such as former Prime Minister Tony Blair, Bill Gates, Richard Branson, Yo-Yo Ma, and Larry Summers.

“As a physician, philanthropist and entrepreneur, (Soon-Shiong) brings a unique perspective and expertise to some of the most pressing issues facing us as individuals and countries, from the ways technology can improve our well-being in a hyper-connected world to the moral urgency of creating a health care system that’s both more effective and more humane,” she said.
