Forging Links To Businesses

The insignia of one Pasadena business is a pig drinking a beer. Which business is it?

That’s one of the oddball questions posed by the Pasadena Chamber of Commerce’s online scavenger hunt, an effort by the business group to get its members to learn more about each other.

Points are awarded for answering the 70 questions on the chamber’s website in addition to visiting establishments and collecting business cards. The player with the most points wins a mountain bike.

To create the game, the chamber asked its 1,300 members to submit clues about themselves. Some were highly unusual. For example: “While working at the Hollywood Reporter, the proprietor of this chamber member business ate George Clooney’s breakfast quiche.” (The Business Journal won’t give away the answers since the scavenger hunt is ongoing.)

Leanne Waggoner, events and external affairs manager, said the chamber tried to find questions that were challenging but not impossible.

“We let the members come up with their own crazy information,” she said. “It was interesting to get the members’ input about their claims to fame.”

Anyone who’s intimately familiar with Pasadena’s storefronts, or just knows how to use a search engine, has a shot.

The deadline to submit answers is June 14; enough time to do Internet research on which chamber member “publishes the Noseletter Blog” and which one previously “operated out of a former Masonic Temple in Glendale.”

That might be easier than stopping into every local watering hole in search of that beer-drinking hog.
