How many hours a week do you work?

Twenty two hours – usually four-and-a-half-hours per day, arriving at 10:30 a.m. and leaving at about 3 p.m.

Why not retire?

I enjoy working and solving problems. Work stimulates my brain and keeps me sharp mentally.

Does your spouse want you to retire?

My wife would like me to spend more time at home and engage with her, so she would want me to retire.

Best part of working past 80?

It keeps me productive and mentally active.

Worst?

I get tired and have to take a daily nap in the late afternoon.

Are you up to date on technology? Do you use email, cellphones or social networking?

I use email and a cell phone, but I do not do social networking as most of my old friends are gone.

What’s the best advice you ever got?

To give up practicing law and begin a career in real estate.

What advice would you give to people who want to work well past 65?

Watch your diet, exercise regularly and have old parents.

What’s the secret to staying healthy and active?

Being healthy and active in your old age depends upon a vigorous routine of exercise, with some swimming if possible; a diet that is low on sugar and carbs; and, most importantly, a happy marriage with a loving and supportive spouse.

Do you work as much as you used to in your 40s and 50s?

My 40s and 50s were my most productive and successful periods. I worked six days a week and 10 hours a day. My output now is less than half of what I once achieved.

How has your work routine changed?

My work routine has changed radically. I no longer can take on all challenges as I did in the past and I have lost interest in many things I did when I was 40 or 50.

What do you miss the most about being young?

Excitement, energy, challenges and socializing.

What do you see in the future?

I see a gradual decline of my energy and enthusiasm, and look forward to spending time doing things that keep me home more – and accepting my future.
