Development Deal: Participant Media, a Beverly Hills producer of film and TV content, has taken an equity stake in Cineflex Media Inc., a Montreal content producer and distributor. Participant and Cineflex plan to partner in the production of TV programming. The size of the equity stake was not disclosed.

CULVER CITY

Moving In: Clive Wilkinson Architects, a West Hollywood firm, is moving to a self-designed new headquarters in Culver City. The new 12,500-square-foot office, at 6116 Washington Blvd., is expected to be completed this month. A 700-square-foot retail space will be taken by tenant Cognoscenti Coffee.

DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES

Name Change: Southern California Minority Business Development Council Inc., a downtown L.A.-based non-profit minority business advocacy organization, has changed its name to Southern California Minority Supplier Development Council Inc. The non-profit changed its name to reflect the work it does for suppliers across the region and is part of a move to make council names consistent across the National Minority Supplier Development Council network.

SAN GABRIEL VALLEY

MONROVIA

Taking Off: AeroVironment Inc., a Monrovia maker of unmanned aircraft and electric-vehicle recharging stations, has received a $3.6 million order from the Marine Corps for the company’s Raven unmanned aircraft systems. The lightweight Raven aircraft provides reconnaissance, surveillance and target acquisition in war zones.

SAN FERNANDO VALLEY

SUN VALLEY

New Handle: XTend Medical Corp., a Sun Valley-based medical device maker and distributor, is planning to change its name to MultiCorp International Inc. as soon as it receives approval from regulatory agencies. Xtend said the name change is based on the firm’s plans to diversify and acquire companies outside medical devices. XTend filed for bankruptcy protection last year, and has been working to reorganize and restructure.

Multifamily Acquisitions: 4D Development and Investment has acquired eight adjacent multifamily buildings in Sun Valley for $9.85 million from Landmark Equity Management Inc. The properties are on New Haven Street and Sunland Boulevard. There are a total of 157 units in the properties.

AGOURA HILLS

Unplugged: THQ Inc., an Agoura Hills Video game publisher, has sold off its ValuSoft division to Cosmi Corp., a Westminster retail publisher of computer games. ValuSoft, based in Chaska, Minn., makes lower-price PC games and software. THQ said the deal will allow it to focus on its console and online games. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
