Fishing Site Nets Big One

Fishhound.com is a social-networking site for fishing enthusiasts that offers real-time fishing reports and gear for anglers to try out.

Now, the Sherman Oaks’ company has taken a big step and snagged a partnership hook, line and sinker with a sports league – and we’re not talking with the good ol’ boys at Nascar. Try Major League Fishing, out of Tulsa, Okla.

This is no fisherman’s fib. Turns out, this league lures the best bass anglers in the country to its competitions, which are covered on the Outdoor Channel. Fishhound will be the league’s online partner, promoting competitions and reporting results, while also posting some of its original content on MLF’s website.

“We felt like it was a natural fit,” said Rick Patri, vice president of operations at Fishhound.

The site offers free reports on where fish are biting, angling tips and other content, and charges members $5 a month to receive gift cards at sporting goods retailers.

The site’s Facebook fans, who number some 350,000, share stories of their catches, boast of poundage and seek advice. They also post whimsical photos, such as a recent one of a dog in a fishing net.

“We try to have fun with everything we do,” said Patri, who added that fishing reports are still its primary service. “That will always be the hook of what we do.”
