Shot in Arm For Sales?

Makeovers often involve dropping dozens of pounds, adding veneers to broken teeth and upgrading a wardrobe. Or if it involves a home, a basement-to-roof renovation might be in order.

Now, business-to-business computer seller PC Mall Inc. is applying the concept to doctors’ offices.

The Torrance company, through its MacMall retail subsidiary, is offering office “makeovers” to one randomly chosen doctor’s office with 10 or fewer employees, and another larger medical, dental or optometry practice.

Products to be given away include mobile computer work stations, scanners, medical dictation devices and software – all of which are needed to help medical practices meet new government requirements to store patient data electronically and keep it private.

“Doctors know a lot about getting people healthy, but generally can use help with technology,” said MacMall President Dan DeVries. “It can be a real struggle for small practices to keep up.”

MacMall is trying to raise its profile among medical practices while expanding brick-and-mortar operations, which also sell computer products. An online retailer since 1995, MacMall opened a retail store in Huntington Beach last month, joining locations in Torrance and Santa Monica. It plans to open a Chicago store early this year.

The contest can be entered online at MacMall.com.
