Star Power Wanted

Can a kiss from a Hollywood celebrity turn a frog into a star? That’s what Frog-Ads.com is hoping.

The online classified site has signed up former “Baywatch” actress Pamela Anderson to serve as brand ambassador as it prepares to take on much larger rivals.

Founded by British businessman Julian Spitari three months ago, the Woodland Hill company runs a free online marketplace similar to Craigslist. But it also allows members to post videos, hold online auctions, and comment and review posts – leaning the e-commerce site toward social community territory.

Standing out in world of online classifieds is not easy, though, for a penny stock that trades over the counter. So, last year the startup changed its name from Imoboli Inc. to FrogAds, in part so it could change its ticker to FROG.

It also hooked up with Anderson, who has appeared on 13 Playboy covers. It hopes to get the kind of attention that domain registry site GoDaddy.com has received from spokeswoman and NASCAR star Danica Patrick.

“We’re trying to add some sexiness to the website,” said Spitari, who declined to divulge the terms of his contract with Anderson or his financing. (The company, which makes money from display ads on its site, reported virtually no revenue last year.)

Anderson, who was not made available for an interview, has already recorded a YouTube video for the company in which she purrs: “Stock markets are going up and down like a yo-yo and our economy has never been so volatile. But as we know, slow and steady wins the race. In this case, the prince has turned into a frog.”
