The Gores Group has agreed to acquire Alpheus Communications, a Houston company that is one of the largest fiber network and data center operators in Texas.

The Westwood investment firm headed by billionaire financier Alec Gores on Wednesday said that it will combine Alpheus with an existing Gores portfolio firm, First Communications. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Alpheus, which is owned by Genesis Park L.P. and El Paso Corp., has more than 2,800 route miles of long haul fiber, and almost 3,250 metro route miles and serves the Dallas/Fort Worth, Houston, Austin and San Antonio metropolitan areas.

“The acquisition of Alpheus Communications provides Gores with a tremendous opportunity to expand upon our current telecommunications holdings, particularly our fiber and high bandwidth transport services businesses,” Ashley Abdo, a Gores Group managing director, said in a statement.
