Pasadena gourmet ice cream maker Choctal Inc. said Tuesday that it has been acquired by Ben Stanley Holdings, a Florida holding company.

Choctal, which opened in 2006, makes ultra-super premium ice cream, and is known for its “single origin” chocolate and vanilla ice cream flavors from specific cocoa- and vanilla-growing regions of the world.

Ben Stanley, based in suburban Fort Lauderdale, is the owner of another gourmet brand called SheerBliss Ice Cream. It plans to continue operating Choctal as a separate brand. Choctal founder Marc S. Boatwright will continue with the company, it said, while Gary A. Barron, president of Ben Stanley Holdings, will become chief executive.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

“Choctal has been singularly important in showing ice cream consumers there is a difference among flavor profiles,” said Barron in a statement “The growing knowledge of consumers because of the Food Network and food-based magazines makes the demand for quality products like Choctal necessary.”
