Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa on Monday named local economist and former local bank executive Sung Won Sohn to the Los Angeles Harbor Commission.

Sohn is currently professor of economics and finance at California State University Channel Islands and vice chairman at Los Angeles-based retailer Forever 21. He previously served two years as chief executive at Koreatown’s Hamni Bank. Prior to that, he was chief economic officer at Wells Fargo Bank. Earlier in his career, Sohn served as an economic advisor in the Nixon White House.

If confirmed by the City Council, Sohn would replace Kaylynn Kim, who announced her resignation last week. Kim said she wanted more time to plan for her upcoming wedding
