Walt Disney Co. has purchased land in North Carolina to build a 150,000-square-foot data center, according to a local media report there.

The Burbank entertainment giant plan to invest an estimated $200 million in the project, which will be built on 26 acres in the Kings Mountain Data Center Park, the Charlotte Business Journal reported late Wednesday, citing county records.

The region has attracted several large tech companies, including Apple Inc., Google Inc. and Facebook Inc., to build data centers there.

Disney representatives had not return calls for comment Thursday morning.

Shares were up 13 cents, or less than 1 percent, to $39.36 in midday trading on the New York Stock Exchange.
