Variety Group, parent of industry trade publication Variety, on Tuesday said that it has acquired TVtracker, an L.A. entertainment research firm.

Popular among industry executives, TVtracker covers U.S. filmed entertainment, including television, feature film and digital entertainment. The subscription-based service includes everything from pilot pickups and series orders to motion-picture development and post-production.

TVtracker was founded in 1999 by Mark Hoebich, who is expected to remain with the company. Variety executives said the acquisition was part of the company’s effort to add value to its online offerings. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

“We have worked closely with Mark Hoebich and his team for some years and have been very impressed with what they do and the value they can bring to our existing work-flow data products,” said Variety Group President Neil Stiles in a statement. “Mark and his team have built an impressive business that is clearly the leader in TV development information as well as first-class film information.”

Tracker staff will move a few miles from their offices on Crescent Heights to join Variety at its Wilshire Boulevard offices.
