Price for Former Guess Chief’s Home Is No Mystery

Carlos Alberini, formerly longtime president of Guess Inc. and now co-chief executive of Restoration Hardware, has listed his Encino home at $3.5 million. We’re picturing some awfully nice doorknobs here.

Alberini joined Restoration Hardware last May. The company is a specialty retailer of furniture, lighting, textiles and home accessories, including those aforementioned doorknobs. It has about 100 stores in 30 states, as well as catalog and online sales. Prior to joining Restoration Hardware, he was president of the L.A.-headquartered Guess, maker of jeans and other clothing.

His 8,134-square-foot house has six bedrooms and sits on about a half-acre gated property. The rustic Tuscan-style home with archways and massive columns has a grand foyer, formal living and dining rooms, a library, a family room, a pool and spa. We also got pretty excited here about the outdoor rooms. Outdoor rooms as a trend moved from being only found in high-end luxury homes to being pretty much mandatory if you want to sell a Southern California house these days.

The home has a professional kitchen, beamed ceilings and hardwood floors worthy of envy. The estate also features a pool, spa, fire pit, a multicamera security system and sound system.

Mark Rutstein and Greg Holcomb of Partners Trust Real Estate, Beverly Hills, co-listed the property with Andrea Korchek of Ewing & Associates Sotheby’s International Realty, Sherman Oaks.

Santa Monica Listing

Daniel Terheggen, a master of all things broadband, has listed his Santa Monica home at $12 million. Terheggen is chief exec of Consolidated Smart Systems, one of the leading DirecTV dealers to multiunit dwellings in the country.

Consolidated Smart Systems, which Terheggen has owned for 37 years, provides digital satellite video, voice-over-Internet protocol services and high-speed Internet as part of its overall broadband offering. It actually has been bringing an array of ancillary services to apartment and condo complexes for more than 50 years.

The house is a real looker and has a pedigree to justify the price tag. It was built in 1910 and designed by architect Robert D. Farquhar – best known as the chief architect of the Pentagon. Farquhar, the son-in-law of Santa Monica’s founder, also designed the California Club in downtown Los Angeles, which is one of the oldest and most prestigious private clubs in the country.

The property Terheggen is selling sits on a flat half-acre corner lot. The home has ocean views, multiple courtyards, several outdoor fire pits, a pool and spa. The remodeled main house has a designer kitchen, four bedrooms including the master suite and top-of-the-line features throughout. The property is gated and includes a motor court that can fit six cars. There is a separate guesthouse, a wine cellar and formal rooms for entertaining. The home has an upstairs billiards room with a bar and a state-of-the-art movie theater.

Steve Moritz of Sotheby’s International Realty, Brentwood, is the listing agent.

Beverly Hills Estate

Disney executive Kevin Mayer has listed his Beverly Hills home for sale at $3.5 million.

Mayer is executive vice president for corporate strategy, business development and technology at the Walt Disney Co. Mayer heads up the group that targets emerging businesses for the Disney portfolio. He rejoined the company from L.E.K. Consulting LLC, where he was a partner and head of the global media and entertainment practice. Previously, he was chairman-chief executive of Clear Channel Interactive and president-CEO of Playboy.com.

The 6,685-square-foot home estate he is selling was built in 2000. It has six bedrooms and sits on a quiet cul-de-sac. It features a grand center hall with high ceilings and a dramatic sweeping staircase entry. Lots of large entertainment rooms, too. The master bedroom suite has large walk-in closets and a lavish bath. There is a 400-square-foot bonus room. The home has whole house water purification and ozone pool filtration. The outdoor living spaces include the pool, spa, barbecue area, and an entertainment patio with heaters and a large flat-screen TV.

Victoria Risko and Jennifer Ryen Puz of Sotheby’s International Realty, Beverly Hills, are the listing agents.
