Risk consultant Kroll officially announced Thursday that former Los Angeles city councilman Jack Weiss will lead the L.A. office of its business intelligence and investigations practice.

Weiss, a Los Angeles native who served on the City Council from 2001 to 2009, will oversee efforts to expand the services that the company provides to government, legal and corporate clients, said Kroll, a New York City company that merged with Altegrity Inc. in August. Former L.A. Police Chief William J. Bratton was named Kroll’s chairman in September following the $1.1 billion merger.

Weiss, a former assistant U.S. attorney, had worked for Altegrity, a law enforcement training company and consultant based in Falls Church, Va., since leaving office.

“Jack’s experience as a prosecutor, government official and his deep connections to the Los Angeles community will expand our capabilities in the region and be a great asset to our clients,” said Robert Brenner, Kroll’s vice president of business intelligence and investigations in the Americas.
