Michael LoGrande is the nominee to become the new Los Angeles City planning director, Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa announced Monday.

LoGrande has 13 years working in the city’s planning department. He is currently head of the zoning administration office.

LoGrande said he plans to fulfill Villaraigosa’s promise to update community plans and bring a higher level of transparency to the development process.

“I’m looking forward to collaborating with the city and various communities and stakeholders throughout Los Angeles to make sure that we have a really vital planning department,” he said in comments after the announcement.

The nomination was welcomed by Russell Brown, Downtown Neighborhood Council president.

LoGrande “proactively reaches out to our community to assist whenever possible and make clear how and when we can be involved in shaping our community,” Brown said in a statement.

The nomination of LoGrande requires confirmation by the City Council.
