United Online Inc. said Wednesday that its FTD.com subsidiary had signed a lucrative multi-year agreement with the United Services Automobile Association to be the exclusive floral provider to the association’s 7.2 million members.

USAA is a financial services group that provides financial services, banking products and shopping discounts to members of the U.S. military, former military personnel and their families. FTD’s contract will be with subsidiary USAA Alliance Services LLC.

United Online, a Woodland Hills-based internet services provider, last year acquired FTD of Downers Grove, Ill., which has a worldwide network of about 45,000 florists. United Online has sought to diversify its business by acquiring other online companies.

“We are extremely pleased to announce this alliance between two of America’s most trusted brands,” said FTD President Robert Apatoff in a statement.

United Online shares closed up 2 cents, or less than 1 percent, to $6.92 on the Nasdaq.
