Profile of Westwood High-Rise Reaches New Heights

It would appear that the baton for the High-Rise With the Hottest Address in Los Angeles has been passed to the Carlyle on Wilshire.

If CNN talk show host Larry King and megasuperstar actor Bruce Willis buying in the Carlyle Residences didn’t do it, then Irv Weintraub inking on the dotted line surely must have. And we’re not even counting the Saudi royalty, the Japanese investors or half the Chinese business class who reportedly bought units there. A spokesman for the Carlyle declined to name any buyers.

Weintraub, former chief operating officer at William Morris, has bought an upper-floor unit in the 24-story crescent-shaped building at 10776 Wilshire Blvd. Each of the compound’s 78 residences has a private elevator that opens directly into the unit. Three-bedroom units, similar to the one purchased by Weintraub, were listed at up to $5.6 million.

Elad Properties, which developed the project, is also responsible for the Plaza in New York. The firm is one of the most active luxury residential developers in the world and has a worldwide portfolio valued at about $7.5 billion.

The building, which is the last permitted high-rise to be built along the famed Golden Mile, has 24-hour “white-glove concierge services,” according to press materials. There is also a 24-hour valet and doorman, a fitness center designed by Sports Club L.A., and a private wine cellar where presumably the white-gloved guys fetch your wine and deliver it to you via your private elevator before the dinner guests arrive.

Weintraub left William Morris this summer; he joined the firm in 1990. He is involved in numerous charitable and civic organizations, including the American Israeli Public Affairs Committee, the American Jewish University and the Venice Family Clinic.

The head of sales at the Carlyle Residences is luxury real estate broker Valerie Fitzgerald of Coldwell Banker, Beverly Hills.

House of Sneaker

While I admit that Sneaker Freaker magazine doesn’t generally find its way into my reading pile, when it comes to writing about $400 sneakers, I must defer to the pros. Here is what Sneaker Freaker had to say about Supra Footwear: “From the neo-classic Skytops to the gold 14k Chad Muska model that sold out in a nanosecond, Supra has managed to spontaneously combust.” High praise, indeed.

And Angel Cabada, the mastermind behind the Supra Footwear line, is moving up the real estate food chain as his firm gives Nike the one-two punch.

Cabada has listed his Hollywood Hills-area home at $1.35 million, while he shops around.

The home he listed, near Nichols Canyon, is a contemporary with three bedrooms and 2.5 bathrooms in 2,132 square feet.

The young Mister C grew up in Orange County; worked at McDonald’s for about two hours before going on his break and never coming back; and eventually found his way to designing skate clothes under his own label, TSA.

His action sports footwear is sold in high-end boutiques, many in Japan and New York. He owns the Krew clothing line as well and runs one retail store in Los Angeles.

Greg Harris, Coldwell Banker Beverly Hills North office, is the listing agent for Cabada’s home.

Oscar Man Moves

The Beverly Hills-area home of award-winning Oscars producer and director Jeff Margolis is on the market for $3.49 million.

Margolis has accumulated six Emmy Award nominations for directing the Oscars telecasts; he won in 1995. (You think it’s easy telling all those supercelebs what to do?)

The 1927 Spanish Mediterranean home has 5,300 square feet, which includes five bedrooms and seven bathrooms. The home has a media room with a projection screen and THX Surround Sound. The property includes a secluded yard with a pool and basketball sports court.

Margolis is head of Jeff Margolis Productions, formed in 1976.

Drew Mandile and Brooke Knapp, both of Sotheby’s International Realty in Beverly Hills, have the listing.
