Ameron International Corp. said Monday it restructured its management team in preparation for the succession of its chief executive.

The Pasadena maker of water transmission lines, said Gary Wagner, previously president and chief operating officer, has become chief financial officer, a position he held in the past. The job of COO has been eliminated. Former CFO James McLaughlin becomes senior vice president of corporate development and the company’s treasurer. Chief Executive James Marlen has taken the additional title of president.

Terrence O’Shea, vice president for human resources, said the changes were part of a transition leading up to the planned departure of Marlen once a successor has been found. He has been CEO since 1995.

Shares closed up 73 cents, or 1 percent, to $66.44 on the New York Stock Exchange.
