Skechers Expands Brand Into Glasses

Skechers USA Inc. has become the second Los Angeles-area fashion line this month to expand its trendy brand into the world of designer eyewear.

The Manhattan Beach sneaker and casual shoe maker said Tuesday that it had signed a worldwide licensing agreement with Viva International Group to create Skechers-branded sunglasses and prescription eyewear for men, women and kids. The collection, set to launch next spring, will prominently feature the brand’s name and distinctive “S” logo.

The company already has accessories and apparel licensing deals. Viva International of Somerville, N.J. has developed eyewear for Candies, Guess? and Tommy Hilfiger.

“In growing our Skechers licensing operations, we have selected partners who can carry the strength of our footwear brand into new products and markets,” Mitchell Lewis, senior vice president of licensing, said in a statement.

Earlier this month, Vernon premium denim maker True Religion Apparel Inc. signed a licensing agreement with Revolution Eyewear Inc. to produce and distribute a branded eyewear line that is set to launch in June. Revolution, a Simi Valley company, makes the Ed Hardy “vintage tattoo” line of sunglasses, and also owns the license for “That’s So Raven,” a Disney brand.

Skechers shares were up 12 cents, or nearly 2 percent, to $6.69 in midday trading on the New York Stock Exchange.
