Wealthiest Angelenos Crowd List of Parade Donors

The Los Angeles Lakers championship celebration and parade today is being financed by several members of the Los Angeles Business Journal’s annual directory of Wealthiest Angelenos.

Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa late Tuesday said much of the cost was to be borne by philanthropists and he announced the names of the most prominent donors. They include Eli Broad, the second wealthiest person on the list; Haim Saban, No. 8; Jerry Perenchio, No. 9; and Ed Roski, No. 13.

Private donations from these and other individuals totaling $900,000 will fund the city’s costs for security and clean-up.

The Lakers along with Anschutz Entertainment Group and Fox Sports Network will pay for the production costs of the parade and rally, expected to exceed $1 million.

“While these dedicated and loyal citizens who have stepped up to underwrite this event have done so simply out of our pride for our city have asked for no special recognition, we owe them a debt of gratitude for this amazing gesture,” said Tim Leiweke, chief executive of AEG, which owns and operates the Staples Center where the Lakers play.

The Business Journal’s Wealthiest Angelenos list is published annually each May.
