Lisa Stevens
Regional President, Wells Fargo California Community Banking
Wells Fargo & Co., L.A. office
Appointed December 2008
Age: 38
Education: Bachelor’s degree, Santa Clara University; Pacific Coast Banking School
Previous Position: Regional president, Wells Fargo San Francisco Bay Area and Oregon Community Banking, 5 years
Current Duties: Responsible for community banking in the state of California, which includes more than 20,000 team members, 971 banking stores and 3,092 ATMs
Challenges: This is a difficult time for many of our customers and communities. Our economy and financial markets are in turmoil and our customers look to us as their bank to provide value-added advice on their financial matters.
What’s Wrong With Banking Now: The economy has caused many people to question the strength and security of some of the larger financial institutions, which creates fear among consumers.
What’s Right: Many financial institutions, including Wells Fargo, are making loans to customers and are doing what’s right for their customers and the communities.
I Decided to Be a Banker Because: Before I started with Wells Fargo, I wanted to be an investigative reporter because I thought I could help change the world. I worked part time at Wells Fargo and didn’t have an interest in becoming a banker, but soon realized I could help people become financially successful and make a huge difference in people’s lives.
Best Career Decision: Rejecting opportunities that presented themselves during the dot-com boom and staying with Wells Fargo.
If I Were Not a Banker I Would Be: A teacher just like my mom.
Best Advice: Focus on what you can control and don’t get caught up in the things that you have no control over.
