Walt Disney Co. is reorganizing its U.S. theme park operation and cutting some jobs to streamline decision-making and eliminate redundancies.

The action will create a single organization to oversee parks in Southern California and Florida, Burbank-based Disney said today in an e-mailed statement. Al Weiss, president of worldwide operations, will head the reorganization effort, Disney said.

The company began offering buyouts to an estimated 600 executives at the parks last month. Theme-park profit declined 24 percent to $382 million on 3.9 percent lower revenue as Disney offered discounts on lodging and merchandise in Florida and Southern California.
