Hilton Hotels Corp. on Tuesday announced plans to quadruple its presence in the Caribbean and Latin America by adding 150 hotels to its portfolio over the next five years.

The Beverly Hill-based hotel chain announced a six-person development team that will focus on the goal. Hilton currently has 51 hotels throughout the Caribbean and Latin America, another 42 properties in its development pipeline and has identified a number of potential locations, it said.

The company previously set a goal of adding 1,000 hotels to its international portfolio in 10 years. Hilton went private last October in a $26 billion acquisition by the Blackstone Group, the New York City private equity group.

“We are focusing on accelerating the growth of our international management and franchise business by securing strategic development agreements and employing resources in international markets,” said Steve Goldman, Hilton’s president for global development & real estate.

The development team will be lead team led by Ted Middleton, senior vice president for development, the Americas.
