Jakks Pacific Inc. on Monday said it purchased privately held Tollytots Ltd. and Kids Only Inc., the later of which licenses the Batman and Dora the Explorer lines, to help broaden the Malibu toy maker’s offerings.

Kids Only Inc. is based in Westborough, Mass., and makes indoor-outdoor children’s furniture, baby doll products and other items. The agreement includes a Hong Kong affiliate, Kids Only Ltd., which licenses such characters as Mickey Mouse, Spongebob Squarepants, and Disney Princesses. Tollytots Ltd. is a Hong Kong-based company that makes licensed baby dolls and baby doll accessories based on Graco and other brands.

Terms of the deals were not disclosed.

Separately, PiperJaffray analyst Anthony Gikas upgraded Jakks shares to “buy” from “neutral,” saying the company is mostly insulated from the problems affecting the overall economy. The stock is a more attractive investment, as it has dropped about 30 percent since April during the market downturn.

“We think adults will reduce spending on themselves before reducing spending on children for birthdays, events and holidays.” Gikas said in a note to clients, adding that the company’s new line-up, including Hannah Montana merchandise and EyeClops night vision goggles is “the best product slate in several years.”

Shares of Jakks were up 15 cents, or 1 percent to at $21.19 in morning trading on the Nasdaq.
