Tetra Tech President Admits Degree Inflation

Tetra Tech Inc., which provides consulting and technical services, said President Samuel Box didn’t graduate from the college listed in its annual report.

Box, who has more than 35 years of experience in engineering, construction and environmental services, admitted he doesn’t have a degree in engineering from the University of California, the company’s head of investor relations, Jorge Casado told Bloomberg News.

Casado added that the board’s governance committee will investigate. He did not say whether Box had attained any engineering degree.

The Fraud Discovery Institute, a San Diego-based nonprofit founded by former con man Barry Minkow, uncovered the problem. It was testing new software designed to ferret out irregularities in publicly traded companies that work with the government, Minkow said.

According to its most recent annual report last November, Box, then 62, joined Pasadena-based Tetra Tech Tetra in 2003 when it acquired Foster Wheeler Environmental Corp. He has been president since October 2004.

Tetra Tech closed down 95 cents, or 4.5 percent, to $20.14 on the Nasdaq on Friday, but was off 24 percent for the week due to the wider market downturn.
