J2 Global Reports Mixed Quarter

J2 Global Communications Inc. on Monday reported 20 percent better third quarter earnings that beat Wall Street expectations, but revenue was lower than expected.

The Los Angeles provider of outsourced, subscriber-based messaging and communications services, including eFax and eVoice Receptionist, reported net earnings of $18.7 million (42 cents per shares), compared with $18.1 million (35 cents) a year ago.

Total revenues increased 11 percent to $61.6 million compared to $55.7 million in Q3 2007. Subscriber revenues grew 12 percent to $60.5 million.

The consensus of analysts surveyed by Thomson First Call expected earnings of 41 cents on revenue of $62.9 million.

J2 Global shares closed up 19 cents, or 1 percent, to $16.31 in Nasdaq trading.
