Internet-based postal metering service Stamps.com said it received a unanimous jury verdict that its trademark NetStamps feature and technology does not infringe any of the patents asserted by Kara Technology Inc.

NetStamps are customizable postage labels that can be used with domestic or international mail. A U.S. district court jury in Los Angels found in favor of Stamps.com on June 27 and determined that no damages are due. Kara originally filed suit in October 2004 in New York, seeking an injunction, unspecified damages, and attorney’s fees.

“We’ve maintained all along that Stamps.com does not infringe the patents at issue, so we were pleased with the verdict,” Seth Weisberg, chief legal officer of Stamps.com, said in a statement Tuesday.

Shares of Los Angeles-based Stamps.com rose 2 cents to $12.50 in mid-morning trading Tuesday.
