CinemaNow, Macrovision Ink Deal

Online movie download site CinemaNow Inc. said Thursday that it has signed a deal with software developer Macrovision Corp. in an effort to make it easier for manufacturers of media players and other devices to make their products compatible with CinemaNow’s on-demand movie downloading service.

Marina del Rey-based CinemaNow has been pushing to make its downloading services available to users other than those on personal computers and ultimately is moving to allow its downloaded movies to be viewed on TV sets. Financial terms of the deal were not released.

The new deal should lead to more devices, including mobile devices, to be compatible with the company’s service, which is to come to the market by the second half of this year, Curt Marvis, CinemaNow’s chief executive, said.

Devices equipped with the technology will be able to download movies, music videos and other CinemaNow content to digital TV sets and set-top boxes that are equipped with storage devices. They also will be able to find, stream and play other content stored on a home network, CinemaNow said.

CinemaNow is privately owned and has about 1.5 million users, the company said.
