A handful of local companies landed in top spots on the inaugural “California’s Best Places to Work” list compiled by the Employers Group, a Los Angeles human relations consulting firm.

Winning first place in the medium-sized business class of companies employing between 100 and 499 people was Burbank-based Lockheed Federal Credit Union. Also receiving high marks among medium-sized companies was Los Angeles-based law firm Mitchell Silberg & Knupp LLC, which placed third.

Fandango Inc., an online movie ticket outlet based in Los Angeles, received an honorable mention in the small business class, companies with 50 to 99 employees.

Pasadena-based chemical firm Materia Inc. placed fifth in the growing company class of companies with 25 to 49 employees.

The Employers Group said that more than 400 companies submitted applications in the first annual study, which weighed 125 different criteria in establishing the winners.
