Suit Against Warner’s Bronfman Dismissed

A court on Tuesday dismissed a $100 million lawsuit against Edgar Bronfman that claimed the Warner Music Group chief executive failed to compensate a former chief executive of publisher Simon & Schuster for assisting in the 2003 Warner buyout.

Dick Snyder claimed he helped negotiate the $2.6 billion purchase of Warner Music from Time Warner Inc. but was never paid for his services as he claimed Bronfman promised him in a gentleman’s agreement. Warner Music’s headquarters are in New York, but its largest operations are located in Los Angeles County.

The New York County Supreme Court unanimously decided to dismiss the case and ordered Snyder to pay Bronfman’s court costs, Reuters reported.

Bronfman’s lawyers described Snyder’s claims as “absolute fiction.”

“This opportunistic lawsuit was a lame attempt to extract money from Mr. Bronfman, whose hard work, vision and creativity helped bring about the successful acquisition of Warner Music,” said Orin Snyder of Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher.

Warner shares were down 9 cents, or 3 percent, to $2.68, in morning trading on the New York Stock Exchange.
