Solid Concepts Makes Michigan Acquisition

Solid Concepts Inc. said that it has acquired a Michigan firm that supplies fabricated components to automotive and other manufacturing industries.

Solid Concepts, privately held and based in Valencia, makes prototypes rapidly for a variety of manufacturers. It did not disclose terms of its purchase of Troy-based Composite Tooling Technologies Inc., which produces large prototype and pre-production urethane and fiberglass reinforced plastic parts.

Composite Tooling’s customers now will have available Solid Concepts’ technologies to enable low-volume production of components directly from design data for greater time and cost savings, said Jeff Lemker, Solid Concepts’ vice president of manufacturing, in a statement this week.

“We have studied many acquisition candidates, and CTTI has proven to be a shining star representing a perfect fit to augment our capabilities,” Lemker said.

Composite Tooling’s Troy plant becomes Solid Concepts’ fifth North American production facility.
