Advanced Photonix Plant To Expand

Semiconductor component maker Advanced Photonix Inc. said it will close its Dodgeville, Wis. assembly plant and transfer the operations to its Camarillo facility.

Ann Arbor, Mich.-based Advanced Photonix will take a one time charge of approximately $520,000 in its second quarter for the closure, and plans to lay off 31 Dodgeville employees by the end of the year.

Based on anticipated product demand, the company said most likely will add staff in Camarillo over time, but no decisions have been made yet. Company officials could not be reached for comment Friday.

Advanced Photonix acquired the Dodgeville operation as part of its acquisition of Silicon Sensors LLC in 2002.
