Council to Create Business Committee

A business-oriented City Council committee will be formed soon, Los Angeles City Council President Eric Garcetti told the Business Journal on Friday.

The new committee will be called the Jobs, Business Growth and Tax Reform Committee and it will be chaired by Councilman Greig Smith.

Garcetti said the committee will consolidate a number of business-oriented responsibilities now divvied up among other committees. That way, business issues can be better coordinated. One goal of the committee will be to create an environment where businesses can go to the city and get their questions answered or issues dealt with quickly, Garcetti said.

There are 15 standing committees, each chaired by a City Council member. To make room for the new committee, the Inter-Governmental Relations Committee, also chaired by Smith, will be folded into another, Garcetti said.
