Countrywide Names New Risk Officer

Countrywide Financial Corp. said it has appointed Jess Lederman the company’s new chief risk officer.


Lederman will be responsible for managing market and operational risks as well as mortgage insurance for the Calabasas-based lender. Lederman is filling a post formerly held by John McMurray, who is leaving the company to become chief credit officer at Washington Mutual Inc.


“Countrywide is fortunate to have someone of Jess’s caliber and experience to help us navigate the current mortgage environment,” Chief Operating Officer David Sambol, said.


Shares in Countrywide closed down 4 cents Tuesday to $19.81. The stock has fallen more than 50 percent so far this year.
