Arizona regulators have rejected a proposed $580 million transmission system Southern California Edison had sought to import more electricity into California.
The Arizona Corporation Commission voted unanimously on Wednesday to reject the planned 240-mile system that would have strengthened the state’s fragile power supplies.
The proposed transmission lines would have run parallel to the existing Devers-Palo Verde transmission line, which connects the two states.
The line would have transmitted an additional 1,200 megawatts of electricity, enough to power some 1 million homes. The plan was approved by California state regulators in January.
Shares in Rosemead-based Edison International, parent of Southern California Edison, were up 17 cents to $58.30 in afternoon trading Thursday on the New York Stock Exchange.
