Universal Studios said Monday that it has formed a partnership to build a theme park in South Korea.

Universal, a subsidiary of General Electric Co., said it has partnered with USKOR & Associates to build the park, which the company said should be complete by 2012. The company gave no financial details or indication where the park would be located.

“The Universal Studios theme park resort planned for Korea can be larger than Universal Studios Hollywood or Universal Studios Japan” Universal said in a statement.

Universal joins Paramount Pictures in venturing into Korea. Paramount is planning to open a $1 billion theme park in the western town of Incheon, and has partnered with Korean automaker Daewoo Motors Sales Corp.

Universal also has parks under development in Singapore and in the United Arab Emirates, which is a $2.2-billion theme park to be called Universal City Dubailand.
