Festival Of the Force

Thirty years ago, Shawn Crosby traveled to a galaxy far, far away and never came back.

Like many Star Wars fans, the space-obsessed artist has been a longtime devotee to George Lucas’ epic science-fiction saga, fashioning his car as a spaceship complete with laser canons and dressing, at times, in full Storm Trooper regalia, the Downtown News reports.

Two years ago, Crosby, 40, made the trek to Indianapolis with thousands of other die-hard fans for the semi-annual Star Wars Celebration convention organized by Lucas Films.

This year, Crosby wanted to stay in Los Angeles, so he helped bring this week’s Star Wars convention to Downtown for the first time, by partnering with L.A. Convention Center officials and pitching their plan to event organizers.

The festival, which touches down on Friday, May 25, is expected to draw more than 25,000 attendees. Thanks to the lobbying of Crosby and others, May 25 will be known as Star Wars Day in the city of Los Angeles.
