Northrop Grumman Corp. won a share of a U.S. State Department global military and peacekeeping training contract that could be worth as much as $200 million.

The five-year deal, called the Global Peace Operation Initiative, will be split among the Los Angeles defense contractor, New York-based L-3 Communications Holdings Inc. and Moyock, N.C.-based Blackwater USA.

Northrop said the initiative will build worldwide capacity to train troops for international peacekeeping missions. Northrop has already organized and run peacekeeping training centers in more than a dozen African nations.

“This work enhances our national security by helping to strengthen the foundations of peace across the globe,” said Michael Devlin, a spokesman for Northrop’s international programs.

Shares in Northrop were down 10 cents to $74.82 in afternoon trading Tuesday on the New York Stock Exchange.
