L.A Billionaires Renew Tribune Interest

In the battle of billionaires looking to buy the Tribune Company, Eli Broad and Ronald Burkle may still make a comeback, the New York times reports.


The company has responded to a request for additional financial information from the two Los Angeles billionaires, whose bid for the company appeared to have been dismissed, people close to the company’s auction said yesterday.


The response could reopen a negotiating process that had been perceived as all but over. Tribune had been expected to announce this week that it was selling itself to Sam Zell, the Chicago real estate mogul.


Now that Tribune has re-engaged with Mr. Burkle and Mr. Broad, the pair could sweeten the earlier offer and get back in the running.


The company had set Saturday as the deadline for an announcement about its future, but a suddenly more competitive process could forestall any announcement.
