SpaceX Rocket Launch Scrubbed

Rocket developer Space Exploration Technologies of El Segundo scrubbed the widely anticipated launch of its Falcon 1 on Monday, nearly a year after the maiden launch exploded shortly after takeoff, the Daily Breeze reports.

Known as SpaceX, the privately held company said it was scrubbing the launch at the Omelek Island launch pad on the Kwajalein Atoll, part of the Marshall Islands in the Pacific Ocean.

An autonomous abort system initially stopped the countdown less than two minutes before liftoff planned at 4: 45 p.m. because of an apparent telemetry or data transmission problem, said Gwynne Shotwell, vice president of business development.

“The vehicle basically self-aborted,” Shotwell said.

The next launch attempt could come as early as today, Shotwell said.
