DreamWorks Animation SKG Inc. said Tuesday that it would produce all its new films using three-dimensional technology in a move to appeal to a wider range of audiences.

The Glendale-based studio said the first film made using 3-D technology would be called “Monsters vs. Aliens,” which is scheduled for a 2009 release. Phil McNally, who worked on “Chicken Little,” will supervise production of the 3-D film, DreamWorks said.

The studio will produce two versions of all new films, including one for use in theaters not equipped to show 3-D movies as well as in home video and television releases.

Shares in DreamWorks rose 8 cents to $28.11 in afternoon trading Tuesday on the New York Stock Exchange.
