Avery Dennison Corp. has appointed Mitchell Butier to the position of chief accounting officer.

Butier also will serve as vice president and controller effective March 1, the Pasadena-based office supply maker said.

Butier will be responsible for the $5-billion company’s domestic and international accounting policies and practices, financial reporting requirements and maintenance of fiscal records. He also will head the Avery’s global finance organization supporting all of its business units.

Butier joined Avery in 2000 and was appointed vice president of finance for retail information Services in 2004.

Shares in Avery were down 52 cents to $64.01 in afternoon trading Monday.
