Enova Systems announced that Chief Executive Officer Edwin Riddell will retire on October 1 and will be succeeded by Mike Staran.

The Torrance-based hybrid vehicle components maker said on Tuesday that it has promoted Staran to chief operating officer effective July 1 in preparation for taking over the top spot in the fall.

Staran has been in charge of Enova’s sales and marketing, operations, procurement, engineering and investor relations since January, Enova said, and has more than 24 years of experience in business development, product management, sales and marketing, and engineering.

Shares in Enova were flat Tuesday at $6.70 but have gained more than 117 percent this year in trading on the Nasdaq.
