Northrop Grumman Corp. said that it won a $408 million contract to supply three Hawkeye surveillance airplanes to the U.S. Navy.

The aircraft, called the E-2D Advanced Hawkeye, are scheduled to be completed in the summer of 2010, the company said Tuesday. The Hawkeye’s main job is to gather targeting information on enemy aircraft, ships and vehicles and relay it to the appropriate channels. Lockheed Martin Corp. is a subcontractor on the contract as well.

Shares in Northrop were down $1.16, or 1.5 percent, to $76.77 in afternoon trading Tuesday on the New York Stock Exchange.
