Future Looks Bleak for California’s Kids

Children born and raised in New York, Nebraska, Minnesota and 30 other states have a better chance of becoming financially successful adults than do those who grow up in California, the Sacramento Bee reports.


That’s the finding of a report released Wednesday by the research arm of Education Week, the prominent national journal, which ranked California 34th in the country in what it calls its “chance for success” index.


The analysis looks at each state’s economic and educational conditions at various junctures in a child’s life — from birth to preschool, to grade school to college and into their careers.
