Taitron Components Inc. of Valencia was the biggest local gainer of the week. Its stock was up 31 percent. Shares in the small electronic components distributor, which does about $17.5 million a year in sales, closed at $3.18 a share. Some institutions bought heavily.

Second was Hi-Shear Technology Corp. of Torrance, a maker of satellite equipment, which gained 21 percent and closed at $11.04 for the week.

Ameron International Corp., which makes coatings and finishes as well as fiberglass-composite pipe, also had a good week, closing up 4.6 percent to $77.75.

The week’s losers include IndyMac Bancorp Inc., which lost more than 10 percent after Wall Street became concerned that bad loans would come back to bite lenders. The Pasadena lender closed out the week down $4.53 to $39.02.

Close behind was Hythiam Inc., which lost 9.4 percent only one day after it hit a 52-week high of $10.48. Apparently, Wall Street wasn’t too fond of the health care service provider after it purchased a Tampa, Fla. insurance company, marking its first foray into the insurance industry. The Los Angeles company closed out the week at $9.25.
